How many persons are there in the Godhead?

Is there a plurality in the godhead?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: For God said, Let us make man, (Genesis 1:26)

Does the godhead consist of three persons?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: There are three that bear record in heaven, (1 John 5:7)

Is the Father a distinct person from the Son and Spirit?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: My Father which gave them me is greater than all, (John 10:29)

Is the Son a distinct person from the Father and Spirit?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: The Lord, (i.e. the Father) said unto my Lord, (i.e. the Son) sit thou at my right hand, (Exodus 1)

And is the Spirit a distinct person, both from the Father and the Son?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, (John 14:26)

Are these the same in essence, affection, and operation?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: These three are one, (1 John 5:7)

May it with any propriety then be said, that there are three Gods?

Answer: No.

Proof: For the Lord is one, and his name is one, (Zechariah 14:9)

Is the Son called God?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Who is over all, God blessed for ever, (Romans 9:5)

Is the Spirit called God?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: “Why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God, (Acts 5:3–4)

Is the Son called Jehovah?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: He is the Lord (Heb. Jehovah) our righteousness, (Jeremiah 23:6)

Is the Spirit called Jehovah?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: They tempted the Lord (Heb. Jehovah) (Exodus 17:7)

They vexed his holy Spirit. Is this name given to any but God?

Answer: No.

Proof: The most high over all the earth, is he whose name alone is Jehovah, (Psalm 83:18)

Is the Son eternal as well as the Father?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Before Abraham was, I am, (John 8:58)

Is the Spirit eternal?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: He is called the eternal Spirit, (Hebrews 9:14)

Is the Son omnipresent?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Where two or three are gathered together in my name there am I, (Matthew 18:20)

Is the Spirit so too?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? (Psalm 139:7)

Is the Son omniscient?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Thou knowest all things, (John 21:18)

And is the Spirit so?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: He searcheth all things, (1 Corinthians 2:10)

Is the work of creation ascribed to the Son?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: All things were made by him, (John 1:3)

Is it also ascribed to the Spirit?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: The Spirit of God hath made me, (Job 33:4)

And is creation a work peculiar to God?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: He that built all things is God, (Hebrews 3:4)

Is the Father the object of prayer?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Pray to thy Father which is in secret, (Matthew 6:6)

Is the Son also the object of prayer?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Lord Jesus, receive my Spirit, (Acts 7:59)

And the Spirit?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Grace and peace be unto you from the seven Spirits which are before the throne,* (Revelation 1:4)

Are we baptized in the name of all the three persons in the Trinity?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, (Matthew 28:19)

And is religious worship a prerogative of Deity?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Worship God, (Revelation 22:9)

Are divine blessings derived from all three persons in the godhead?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all, (2 Corinthians 13:14)

Have each of these their distinct province in the affair of man’s salvation?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Through him we both have access by one spirit unto the Father, (Ephesians 2:18)

Is the unity in the godhead a motive to unity among the saints?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: That they all may be one; as thou Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, (John 17)

Should we hold fast this doctrine?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Hold fast the form of sound words, (2 Timothy 1:13)
