Did our first parents continue in the estate wherein they were created?

Did man fall from that estate in which he was created?

Did he fall from a state of knowledge?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: His understanding is darkened, (Ephesians 4:18)

Did he fall from a state of holiness?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: He is alienated from the life of God, (Ephesians 4:18)

And from a state of freedom?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: He that committeth sin is the servant of sin, (John 8:34)

And from a state of rest?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked, (Isaiah 57:21)

And from a state of communion with God?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: For Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God, (Genesis 3:8)

And from a state of happiness?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: So he drove out the man, (Genesis 3:24)

And do all mankind imitate the sin of their first parents?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: They, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant, (Hosea 6:7)

Did God foresee Adam’s sin?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, (Isaiah 48:8)

But was he the author of it?

Answer: No.

Is man’s ruin then from himself?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself, (Hosea 13:9)

Should Adam’s fall teach us to be watchful over ourselves?

Answer: Yes.

Proof: Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall, (1 Corinthians 10:12)

And to disclaim all confidence in the creature?

Answer: Yes.
